Looking to tap into additional markets, Grace College has opened a new satellite campus in Ohio. This however, is not your typical campus. Instead of a traditional satellites campus, Grace is opening a “School of Cosmetology”. "This is something completely new for us, remarked Jim Swanson. "But we recognize a large need that simply hasn't been met yet. Our goal in this isn't to try and bring in more money to Grace, we just want to help young woman (and maybe a few guys) by building character, sharpening competence, and preparing them for service.
When asked how he came up with the idea for a new school, Dr. Swanson replied; "I was just reading the word, and I came to that passage where it talks about forgetting what you look like after looking in a mirror. It really tugged on my heart strings. When I told my buddy Aaron my new idea, he thought cosmetology was the study of the stars. Once I explained what it was he was instantly on board.” Graduates of this new program will learn not just how to make clients and customers beautiful on the outside, but they will also be able to speak truth into the lives of people who are in need of a soul makeover.
Graduates in business, Biblical studies, psychology, and many others are struggling to find jobs after graduation. This is not the case for the cosmetology market, which has seen an steady increase in jobs over the last decade. The employment options for these graduates will be abounding. Grads can find employment as a make-up artist for church dramas, make-up artists for televangelists, make-up artists for the "Saw" horror series, and the list goes on.
We are thrilled to have hired Dr. Linda Pfaltztine to lead this new school. Dr. Pfaltzine comes to us with with 20 years of experience, having owned her own Christian cosmetology store, "foundations of life", as well as traveling with Joel Olsten has his personal makeup artist for seven years.
